What you need to know about Hydroponics
Saturday, October 17th, 2009    Subscribe To Our FeedHydroponics is a form of gardening and cultivation of plants. The various pollutants that we are exposed to in soil often do not go away even after several years. The well being of people is so important that researchers have been prompted to look for ways to minimize plant exposure to mediums that carry pollutants. Hydorponics is when plants do not need to use soil as a planting medium.
Soil Is Not Important
In hydroponic gardening, researchers have found out that soil is actually just a reservoir where nutrients are stored for the plant’s consumption. The plants food is stored in the reservoir. So you see that this reservoir is not necessary if the plant, in some other way, can receive the needed nutirents. Through hydroponic research it has been discovered that the nutrients contained in the soil dissolve when they come in contact with water so that plants can absorb them easier. For some plants hydrponics has done away with the need for soil.
Terrestrial plants, though usually found in soil, can actually survive without soil when they have access to the proper nutrients that are essential to their growth. For a more healthy human life hydroponics has some medium that may be more suitable. These mediums include gravel, mineral wool, and perlite. These mediums are for there to provide stability to give the roots something to hold on to.
The important factor in hydroponics is actually the mineral solution that fills the nutritional needs of the plant. Almost all plants can grow without soil as long as the nutrient based solution is present. The solution is actually formulated to meet the demands of a thriving and growing plant and given to the plant in doses. Not all plants can tolerate their roots being exposed to water all the time so some nutritional solutions
for hydroponic gardening are given in intervals.
Hydroponics has certain advantages such as cultivation in a clean environment with the fuss and mess of soil. Hydroponics has another advantage because it help eliminate many soil borne diseases that tranfer to produce and plants. Hydroponics also opens the possibility to cultivate plants in places that are barren such as the desert. Greenhouses can be made to provide better crops that have nutrients provided to them directly without soil since most plants do not need soil to grow.
